It will be interesting 50 years from now reading news stories about youth environmental activists throwing containers of cricket soup at solar panels and epoxying themselves to them.
Solar to run a specific machine, (AC) good. To replace electricity? Not even close...yet.
There's a hotel along I-70 at Ohio exit 169 (OH83.) It was built without grid connection. Sounds good until you see it has 6 large banks of panels + a wind turbine to power it. That's one small building.
The power consumption from that hotel would have been equivalent of finding a nickel in the couch with a coal plant.
Winter must be interesting... The cheapest power is still nuke.
I imagine they have both wind and sun because neither are anywhere close to 100% reliable, especially in Ohio. Sunshine is a mythical beast at times.
