Advanced countries like South Africa plan the rolling blackouts long in advance. Every household has a plan with the scheduled blackouts in their area. For example, Monday from 08:00 to 11:00, Tuesday from 11:00 to 13:00, and so on.

While the article doesn't specify, I'd have to believe it would be three hours at a time, as often as necessary to keep the grid stable.
