The thing about transitions is, they only happen when there is a need for them. If we were actually running out of oil (we are not), the transition to other sources of energy would happen naturally, in it's own time and in its own way, the most efficient and cost-effective way. But when such a transition is forced, it never works, because it makes no rational or financial sense. Right now, oil is the source of energy we should be using for our cars. Coal is what we should be using to generate electricity, along with nuclear. Windmills and solar panels are a joke.
