So you're advocating for just throwing them in the ground and hoping it's SEP. Gotcha. We'll put them with all the wind turbine blades we can't do anything with! Hope they indeed do not contain anything that's toxic.
Now, let's talk about the electronic inverters you need to get that power from the panel into a regulated form for your house. One doesn't simply get 220/60 from a panel without some sort of electronic inverter, full of lead and silver and antimony and all kinds of other goodies.
Then all the flooded lead-acid batteries you need to store that power at night. Or maybe we'll use toxic lithium that gets mined by children and has a simply frightful tendency to burn if not cooled properly.
Most people think you can simply stick a solar panel on your house and get electricity. You can, if you only want unregulated DC. Otherwise, you need lots of extra stuff (at extra cost) to make it useful.
Yep. Even with all that stuff put together, it's still cheaper than buying power from the utility. At least it is in places like California. You thought they were all just crazy for spending so much, but you didn't know that utility power is even more expensive.
That's the danger of living in Commifornia. It's not cheaper in Ohio, and I haven't seen the sun for the better part of two weeks.
55 cents kWh and sunny 360+ days a year.
