Electric cars are useful, but they are not being designed, manufactured or promoted to live up to their full potential. They should be very light weight, very slow and very cheap. More like fancy, family-friendly golf carts than cars. Go to the store, drop the kids off at school, a run to the post office... that kind of thing. Top end = ~35mph. You don't need a full solid car with A/C and airbags to pick up some groceries a few miles away. I see them advertising "0-60 in 6.5 seconds" as though they needed to compete with real cars. It's a waste of resources. A practical electric car should be $5,000 new. Then every home would have one to use for the 90% of those short trips the gas pigs are doing now.
