This was known back when they first started this program. I'm not even sure it's net energy positive.

I can see ethanol being useful in certain conditions - remote areas that could grow and refine their own fuel to power a local fleet, perhaps. But it would have to be incredibly cost-ineffective to bring in outside fuel for this to work.

It also raises the costs of food but gives corn farmers a nice big fat check.
