the other issue is that you can pretend nuclear is clean and safe all you like, fukushima is going to start becoming a massive issue in the pacific over the next 10 years and it is not clean, burying waste with warning labels on it for tens of thousands of years doesnt make anything environmentally friendly or safe at all.
coal power puts out immediate mid level pollution. nuclear power creates waste with a disastrous effect for longer than we have even been recognisable as modern humans.
I don't see the problem with burying it. There's already radioactive material in uranium mines and that doesn't come with a warning label.
And yes, there have been a couple of very high profile accidents, but they weren't exactly the apocalypses that they were made out to be. Not to mention that not all types of reactor are made equal, some are much safer than others.
There's also the issue that the leftists are right about one thing: Eventually we will run out of fossil fuels and we need to plan for that.
