I don't see the problem with burying it. There's already radioactive material in uranium mines and that doesn't come with a warning label.
And yes, there have been a couple of very high profile accidents, but they weren't exactly the apocalypses that they were made out to be. Not to mention that not all types of reactor are made equal, some are much safer than others.
There's also the issue that the leftists are right about one thing: Eventually we will run out of fossil fuels and we need to plan for that.
