Heh I was going to say this. It's really not a terrible idea in a really needed situation.
You are on to something. Homeless encampments must then be the most sterile and hygienic places to be in a plague outbreak then.
Be sure to stay well hydrated too. That way you'll have a backup source available at all times.

hand sanitizer is like the worst fucking thing use... its fucking basically rubbing alcohol and wil dry you shit out. yes you have a immune system FUCKING USE IT
I just whip it out and pee on door handles prior to use. Surprisingly people are not appreciative of my efforts.
Spray it on your hands after you touch anything.
And wipe your face.
As a note Hand Sanitizer is not very effective again viruses. Bacteria yes, but viruses no.
As others have pointed out soap and water is the best. Hot or cold water it literally makes no difference, but at least 20 seconds and lots of vigorous rubbing.
