Great shot. Cooked this last night and used the "Closed door" method for the first time. Super easy and came out perfect (but a bit earlier than predicted) I didn't do any gravy it was noted by all.

I've only made it twice, both times using the directions in the OP. I don't know what the closed door method is.

I want to try Alton Brown's method next.

One of the times I had plenty of leftovers, so I cut it up into steaks and cooked it like I would a steak in a cast iron skillet. It was spectacular.

The closed door method is super simple. https://www.thespruceeats.com/closed-oven-prime-rib-roast-method-995286

Oven at 500. Put the meat in 5 min per lb. so 6lbs = 30 min.; in 30 min, turn the oven off and leave the thing in there with the door closed. In 2 hours of leaving it alone pull it out and eat it.
