I've never bought purina or any of their derivatives for my pets, thank God, but now I'm suspect of ALL commercial pet food... Time to start making it myself.
Just go raw, it's not just as simple as feeding them a chicken a day. Look for 80/10/10 80%meat,10%bone and 10% offal, add in raw dog friendly veggies every couple of days and some cod liver oil daily and you're onto a winner. I pay around a £ a lb for this 80/10/10, dogs love it and it mimics their natural diet. Coats improve, health improves, muscle tone is awesome, win win
You process your own bone and offal? Use a meat grinder? Sorry if my questions sound stupid but I'm trying to improve my ignorance on the subject. Can you give an example, as in what type of meat, which bones, and what offal? I want to switch my dog and cats to home made My mother in law used ground turkey, rice, veggies and she put raw garlic in the barn dog's food because he had heartworms when they rescued him off the road by the farm. People say raw garlic is bad for dogs but she put two cloves a day in his food and he lived for 10 years with heartworms that the vets claimed to be unable to get rid of. So I am interested to learn more about better ways to feed pets. I appreciate your time replying.
I don't make my own, I buy a commercial mix from a local company, I couldn't make it for what it costs me(I pay around 1£ per chub(454g), I get 34 chubs per box and a box takes from 30.99 to 36gbp, it's quite expensive with 2 dogs(even on a budget brand) works out to around 100-120gbp per month, but they're condition is fantastic and we believe that it's the best thing for them.
After speaking with vets and trying many different feeds to get our 1 dog to use the toilet and be firm(took 18 months) we decided to try raw, within 2 days he was constipated and has always produced normal crap ever since, I wouldn't have believed the transformation if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. Another deciding factor was that a vet quoted to me that 50% of dogs over the age of ten now have cancer, well simple logic suggests that it has to be something to do with the food they're eating and once you know how they make this shit, you wouldn't feed it to a rat(well you may because you might want a rat to die, but you get the point) look it up and research, it's awful. I will link a site just to give you an idea of products etc available.

Sorry I can't be of further help.
There was something killing cats not long ago, they thought it was the food.
I'm convinced the yearly "vaccines" are killing them. I've never bothered vaccinating my cats and so far the first one lived to 21, the second is 18 and still going strong, and the younger two are 13 + 12 with no health problems. Most people I know have to put their cats down by 10-13.
I have one that is 21, had its first jabs (before we bought him), never had any since, he still catches birds and brings us headless squirrel as an offering lol
I left a vet over a vaccine fight over my latest kitten. I just needed him neutered. He was requiring the poisons at that visit. I was so irritated. Even if he believes vaccines do what they say, why would you hit a tiny dude's immune system the day of surgery? It was also a place where I had to fight to be allowed in the room during exams because I was gonna covid the vet or something.
I ended up finding a vet super close by who has never mentioned vaccines and even treated and diagnosed one of my cats who had been misdiagnosed by the last guy. It wasn't like the last guy was cheap. This vet has been less than half the price. I never hesitate to take my crew in for basic checkups now because she never argues with me and ilwill even talk blood work details since I understand it.
