Well stated. Like most inventors he was probably eccentric and paranoid. Getting involved with government agents and the Pentagon, while having oil reps harassing him probably didn't help either. It most likely was a stroke and he ran out thinking he'd been poisoned because of all his stress. His brother was there so I'm surprised if it was a hit they didn't take him too. Surely they thought he would continue the project if it was real.
