The only question is whether Meyer was an outright conman, or whether he was kidding himself along that his supposed invention would work. The same question might be applied to many inventors who come up with miracle inventions that never actually seem to reach the marketplace. There's a guy who supposedly invented a cold-fusion commercial power unit. Wonder why we never hear about him? Then there's that guy who's been working on a flying car for the past 50 years or so. His car still isn't flying, even though numerous others have shown him how it's done. Con men, or self-deluded? You decide.
Well stated. Like most inventors he was probably eccentric and paranoid. Getting involved with government agents and the Pentagon, while having oil reps harassing him probably didn't help either. It most likely was a stroke and he ran out thinking he'd been poisoned because of all his stress. His brother was there so I'm surprised if it was a hit they didn't take him too. Surely they thought he would continue the project if it was real.
