I only have direct knowledge about Toyota, but they keep reporting to the media and shareholders that their production is down 15%, but on the ground the reality is far more drastic. One of the largest Toyota dealerships in the country that normally moves hundreds of vehicles a month is only slated to receive 15 vehicles next month. Not 15 of one model, 15 vehicles total. Compared to their pre-plandemic numbers this is more like a 95% reduction, not 15%.

At first I thought maybe the smaller dealers are getting more cars in an effort to keep them afloat, but my nearby Toyota dealer has no cars. Literally zero. They don't even have a new car in the showroom. They have nothing. And it's been that way for months.

So, either Toyota is lying through their teeth, or their production is being sent somewhere other than the US.

I was in Punxsutawney, PA this past weekend. There's a small Chevy dealer there that does a good business because that crowd likes Chevrolet. They normally have a few dozen cars on the lot, and a number of used trade-ins.

This past weekend I think there were two new cars on the lot, and a couple of used pickups in the trade-in lot. That's normally pretty packed on both sides. Other dealers in the area have cars, but they have them spaced out so it looks like there is lots more than there is.

I live in a major metro area, I don't know what the dealership numbers are like compared to normal, but I do know that due to the fact that there's ~2 years of pent up demand, any planned shipments are reserved pretty much straight away, meaning nothing actually makes it onto the lot.
