Tbf I don’t think that is what is being claimed here, more a matter of consensus bias techniques backed by institutional persecution. The governmental suppression of free speech is just the icing on the cake.

Read "Darwin's Black Box" by Michael Behe, a professor of biochemistry. It will be the most challenging book you ever read, No religion or voodoo in it, just science of how complex biological mechanisms can not develop solely by random mutations in the 13.8 billion years since the big bang.
Even if that were true, it's not a case for intelligent design. Intelligent design requires a complex mechanism to start with - the one that will do the designing. As a theory it's no better off than evolution, except not only does it have to explain the genesis of complex mechanisms, but the means and methods that were used to design and implement the universe we see.
