Let's cut to the chase here. This is a woman, right? As such, she obviously had no place in the upper levels of high tech development. She was not capable of doing any primary research herself, as a woman, so she was there for show. She was a politically-correct figurehead. That's all she was. She didn't know anything, so she couldn't say anything that would threaten anybody. Ergo, what happened to her was not a sinister plot, it was her losing her mind. She just went crazy, as women are prone to do when forced to simulate male roles that are beyond their abilities.
