See, it's this feedback loop; like a flywheel that may be slow to start, requiring energy input, but once it's going it requires just a little Dylann Roof or a synagogue swastika to keep in perpetual motion.
"The Media" seems to have a large "lever arm" and a little act can be magnified into much more energy for the "racism = bad" flywheel.
In the long, long, long run, human beliefs are fickle. Time was, we lived in nomadic clans and killed anyone not of our clan. We hated all "others." It was pure racism. And so what? What would have been the point in "not being racist" in those times?
So what is so special and enlightened about the current epoch that we think that we've polished the art of human living in complex societies so far that mixed tribes can live alongside each other as an end in itself? What is the point of existence, or what makes a successful human life? If it's procreation and raising another generation, then those racist clans way back when were "right" and "good."
I'd love to have the superpower of fast-forwarding to a later era, and I imagine seeing a society/world in perfect harmony and all are racists, for example. "How times change!"
