28 U.S. Code § 3002 (15) - Definitions
This is not a business number, it's a law. A law that defines the language used for other laws.
Specifically it defines “United States” when referenced in any other law as meaning: a Federal corporation OR an agency, department, commission, board, OR other entity of the United States OR an instrumentality of the United States.
