Yep, obviously fake. CGI wasn’t very good in 2001. One dead giveaway is how the “plane” sprite has no identifiable airline paint, markings or strobe lights on it.
People don’t like to accept that what they see on tv isn’t real, even if it can’t be real due to being physically impossible, like a plane melting into a steel and concrete solid structure.
