There is some validity to this theory. The actual term "Loosh Energy Farm" was invented (it says in this article) by the astral traveler Robert Monroe. We can safely assume that he just pulled it out of his ass. However, it is quite true that some spirits feed on human emotions. Probably on animal emotions as well.
And the stronger emotions of sorrow, fear, anger and lust are the meatiest feasts for spirits. They will also feed on freshly-spilled blood -- not on the actual blood itself, of course, but on the essence in the blood. It's a truism of the occult that spirits flock to a battlefield like crows to feast on the newly-spilled blood of the dying and the dead.
Higher spirits feed on positive feelings of hope, happiness, love, and so on. Lower spirits feed on anger and fear. The very lowest feed on emotions that are close to being sensations, such as lust and the other appetites. These emotions attract spirits the way the scent of a roasting leg of lamb will attract a dog.
