This is the first time I am hearing about them. I scanned the wiki page, and I couldn't help but notice they have to specify these things aren't viable sources of usable energy.

They’re much more viable than the ridiculous tokamak things they’re throwing billions at.
When you think about it, it makes sense. A Farnsworth is a simple circuit, and concentrates the fusion in a single point. Far easier to contain than a big dumb donut.
