There are obstacles and haze from clouds and condensation obstructing the line of sight, and moreover the light cannot be resolved at such distance (acuity). Our eyes cannot see things that are trillions of miles distant.
There are obstacles and haze from clouds (like on the ground?) obstructing every object from every angle from every vantage point on Earth? Infrared can see through haze. That's a more significant scientific finding that Earth being flat. You should be published in a journal and awarded a science-man prize.
A Chicago skyline fully visible across Lake Michigan is not a superior mirage. There is one explanation, and it does not at all fit the status quo and cannot be argued away.
