The optimistic belief that one could compose music like Beethoven, paint like Rembrandt, study the universe like Plato and Nicolaus of Cusa, and change world society without violence, was alive in the 1890's—admittedly, it was weak, and under siege, but it was hardly dead. Yet, within twenty short years, these Classical traditions of human civilization had been all but swept away, and the West had committed itself to a series of wars of inconceivable carnage.
This is what comes from mixing the cultures of lower races into white Christian culture. It is the same as if you threw a handful of mud into a basket of newly-washed white sheets. It dirties them, and it is hard to get out. White people do not listen to classical music these days because they are not exposed to it as children. Blacks do not listen to it because it is too complex for them; it is not part of their culture. But if white children were exposed to classical music regularly while growing up, they would listen to it because it is a part of their culture. Such musical complexity comes naturally to them.
