The roots of our civilization are in Greece. Read Plato. Aristotle is a tough read but you can try him if you want. I enjoy the lesser known Greek philosophers, such as Zeno, Epictetus, Heraclitus, especially the Neoplatonists who combine philosophy with theology. Also read the Greek historians and humanists. Some of the Roman writers are also worthwhile. The *Golden Ass* is a hoot, a real page-turner.
