I'm not so sure he made any such deals. Blacks in the 1960's were still persona non grata in mainstream "American" entertainment, but it's pretty clear that media management back then had active criminal ties, encouraging drug pedlars to join the entertainers groupies, and entourage. It doesn't make sense to drug the talent to control them if you own damning information you can use to coerce compliance.
