Recently the live aboard dive boat, The Conception, burned to the water line, before sinking, claiming 30 or so victims. The technology used in rapid DNA analysis was used to identify remains that were burned piles of goo, basically, and the authorities were forced to admit that it was classified technology as the identifications were done in less than 24 hours, as they were able to recover the remains. Point being, the tech does exist.
