You managed to repair that while drinking. Impressive.

Yeah, my hand is steady after a drink. Two drinks, still good. Three, so/so. Four, concentration is required. Steady pace is ace.

I had all chips de-soldered and the sockets in before I had drink #2 down and then it is just logic probing and probing my brains logic. Turned out to be a multiple issue. Primary logic array/ Vic chip/ Cia chip / Bad capacitor. Added a custom built PWM controller and micro blower I had laying around.

Pretty cool, That level of hardware work is beyond my experience, I’ve done a few things like that here and there, I know my way around a multi meter and a soldering iron but I’m still impressed by the people who are truest good at it.

I started modding things in the 80s when modding meant getting electronic engineering books from the 60s, learning and building from scratch. It is a slow game hobby. Still makes me cringe to see modern PC customization get called "modification". Added some LED fans and rope lights I bought....... Wooohooo... KIDS TODAY I TELL YA!!! Muh lawn, off.

I think I still have a Vic 20 in my basement. The power brick died and I've never bothered fixing it.

I should do something with it. I even have two TRS-80 (models II and III) computers down there. I sometimes boot one of 'em and play Zork, but I haven't had time to do that in years.

to pull out the vic20. The trash80 is a neat machine, has the best version of zork in my opinion as well. Also

Damned right, the trash 80 (you're probably pretty old if you know that name) has the best version of Zork.

I used to dial in to the university with my TRS-80. I still have the acoustic coupler (cradle MODEM) for it. Alas, I only have the one that came from RadioShack. It sucked and I spent an ungodly amount of money to buy one from Hayes (? it was a long time ago) but that's long since gone missing.

I have a thing for acoustic coupler modems at 300 baud. My first experience with the thrash80 was a classroom with on of Was pretty amazing at the time.
