Does that mean the lose immunity when it comes to content? I’m not recalling the specifics, but vaguely remember sites like Reddit got special status as a site that simply re-hosted material, giving them a massive pass against litigation.

If they’re now claiming to own the content, they can be sued. I think one example would be defamation…if they allow fake news that defames somebody, they can be sued like a newspaper who printed it. I think.

Edit: @level_101 mentioned it here - https://poal.co/s/LawAndLegalMatters/792326. Looks like it’s section 230 protections

I think a good kike lawyer could potentially claim that if they "own" the content, they are responsible for it regardless of §230 protections.

You can't own it and be protected from it at the same time, IMHO. IANAL, however, just a stupid bird who can type a silcrow.

They didn’t argue that they owned the name “WallStreetBets”. They argued that having the founder of /r/WallStreetBets associated with an event named “WallStreetBets Live” falsely implies that Reddit is associated with the event. It was a weak argument, but they won anyway.

Indirectly, Reddit did assert ownership of the community. If you build a community on Reddit that community cannot leave Reddit and take its own name with it.
