I like that these companies are now immediately questioned about nudging people to quit. Smart investors are taking note of these mandates. Toyota USA is privately owned though, so this might only affect Toyota Motors in Japan.
As for the best and brightest leaving, a friend of a friend who works in HR consulting says they are helping their big clients with these mandates. Many of the clients admit privately that these are meant to make people quit. To keep the good people from leaving the companies quietly offer to let them continue working from home at least part time. If the other people get annoyed when they notice their teammate is always at home it doesn’t matter because those are the people the company is trying to frustrate into leaving on their own.
