It really does. Never made a profit, no prospects of a profit, why would anyone buy it?

X amount of USD equals voting rights. Those voting rights will align with the voters agenda, or the agenda (s) the voter is paid to vote for. All in an effort to control the (multiple) narrative (s) on one of the largest, strictly internet based, propaganda machines known to man. (Being the most popular site of its type doesn't hurt.)

Tl;Dr, It's all about control. Control over the propaganda that most of the (brainwashed) world (could possibly) see. (A certain amount of that propaganda will travel by word of mouth after it's posted to reddit, but we get the idea.)

User metadata as well. Since the API changes most third-party clients no longer function, so most people just went to the official Reddit app. Since their requested permissions are so broad they could scrape the following:

  • Location and active times
  • Camera footage, including eye tracking for identifying interest
  • Audio recordings
  • Web browsing history
  • Local files
  • All user IDs on the phone

Are they doing this? It's certainly possible, especially considering the length of TOS agreements nowadays. I have no evidence to confirm this though.
