It's thought, in part, due to the massive slowdown in car sales. Satellite Radio is often a feature on new cars.

I can't see how they'd have that many people to lay off, it's not like the technology is any different or they're creating lots of new programming. Most of it is already available feeds or other garbage.

I've used Sirius, XM, and SiriusXM off an on since they first established back in the early 2000s. The last time I used them was in 2018. They're so fucking woke and garbage now that you're literally better off just listening to the radio. The music selection is trash, they have bumpers between every song which takes up more time than ads on a radio station would, the talk shows are basically communist in their views, and you can't even listen from your computer without an additional sub.

Why the fuck would I pay for this when I can get Pandora for 5 bucks or Spotify for 10 bucks?

Edit: oh yeah, and good luck canceling your subscription. You practically have to cancel your credit card that you attached to the account because they WILL NOT turn off your service

There are plenty of streaming specialty stations for free if you have a data plan on your phone. When I'm travelling, I usually put on one of SomaFM's stations.

I've used Pandora since they opened also. I have all my stations tailored for my tastes, and know how the algorithm works. I don't mind paying for it. I'm too much of a fud-boomer to fiddle fuck with the new music stuff

I would imagine a boomer being more attracted to the simplicity of satellite radio rather than a algorithm controlled smartphone application.

I pay for XM. The rock stations are fucking great. And I have music where I don't have cell service.

I haven't been a subscriber in years, but I don't recall canceling being a big problem in the past.. not like Onstar at least.

Their service is antiquated though. As you mentioned, mobile applications are generally better than live radio. I get some mail from XM once a month with a resub offer of 5.99/m for a year even though I haven't paid for their service in years, so they are persistent.
