I went to one on marathon key, FL last year for nostalgia. Should be criminal what their CEO did to that company.

It's kind of weird how Walmart became so successful where Kmart failed, at the end of the day it was pretty much the same store.

Kmart never changed or updated. The last time I was in one was 2006, it literally looked like 1986 for the most part save the tube tester in the back was gone.

Damn it I miss walking into a store and being able to buy useful electronics. Looking for a tube tester right now, actually.

Had no idea there were any still around.

The biggest difference between target and kmart is target is cleaner and brighter. Kmart, sears, toysrus, bradleys, caldor, steinbachs and the like all had terrible lighting and dirty looking floors. Its not rocket science, people dont want to buy shit from a dingy looking store.

I wonder how much money they wasted on marketing and other bullshit that could have gone to upgrading lighting and stripping the floors/painting walls.

I think you're right. Although the ToysRus by me was well taken care of.

I briefly considered heading to the Westwood, N.J. store before it closes (and before I leave this shit state for good) but it isn't worth the drive.

I visited the last Sears by me when it was closing. It was kind of depressing.

Me too. Picked up a Craftsman shop vac and a few other items on discount.

Wtf

I still remember under bush the day "malls died". Literally in like one day / week all of a sudden most malls were like half dead.

Transform SR Brands LLC (doing business as Transformco, referred to as "New Sears")

Owns Sears and Kmart.

I blame Rosie O'Donnell. Isn't there 2 blockbusters left?

Just checked. Says one left in Oregon.

Yep. Used to be some in Alaska

Online shopping and Walmart killed it. Kmart couldn't adapt to the digital world.

Couldn't or perhaps wouldn't. Maybe the guys at the tops were just sucking it dry and riding it out with low effort.

It's difficult to create a successful online shopping platform or develop a deep supply chain like Walmart's. That requires effort and skill and captial (regardless of what anti-capitalists will tell you). Those running Kmart lacked on all fronts.
