This has been a problem for a long time, employers and recruiters simply vanish when you aren't selected to continue or turn out to not be 101% of what they wanted.

Right before the economy was destroyed for teh lulz, there were stories talking about how candidates were ghosting employers and recruiters, and they were all "Why are they doing this to us?"
