I’m listen to book one called the name of the wind, I’m about 8 hours in and I’m having a hard time following what is going on, is the whole book this guy telling a story? And then sometimes it’s him telling a story about someone else telling a story.

The whole story is dude sitting in an inn telling his life story to two other people. What is going on in the book right now?

He just heard the story about how The one guy that was a great warrior couldn't die and then got renamed to the name of the guy that killed his family.

Ok so yeah that was a story the guy heard in a tavern when he was a kid. It's more world Building. For me the first book didn't really take off until after this next part.
