Sounds bad man.
Leasing equipment doesn't really make sense for a pocket gadget that costs maybe a couple hundred bucks to make and something people are going to be using every day. I get why people would do it with a car, not that I would, but I can see where they're coming from doing it with one. A phone though, that's just stupid. You can't tell me a flagship phone isn't going to fulfill your needs one year later and that maintenance costs are just too high.
This has been Microsoft's and Apple's long-term business model for a decade at least. They don't want to sell you shit, they want to own a piece of you.
Time for these perhaps? https://puri.sm/products/librem-5/
EXPENSIVE. I have a Pine64 PinePhone, It's also a linux based. If the librem is anything like it, Linux on a cell phone has a promising, but long way, to go. PinePhone (pine64.com)
