Exactly. That's how Gaudi was able to shape it the way it is.
Most cathedrals are sharp-edged, square, rectangular, because it's easier to calculate masses. The Sagrada Familia is really one of its kind.
But if he invented but nobody used later, I don't see it as a technique. More like a performance. I'm not into architecture as you can see, sorry if I made dumb statements, only talking from my point of view
