Sad that you don't see craftsmanship like this anymore. I wonder how much extra it would cost today to have this level of detail over a copy pasted suburban house.
With the price gouging going on at present with wood (what, does covid kill trees now?) the extra cost for stone/brick might not be all that much.
Didn't hear about that. What's the deal? Is there a lot of new home builds happening as people flee the cities?
From what I'm told, it is because the production lines to cut and produce the wood stopped due to covid hysteria.
I suspect that is a convenient excuse.
I have a home like this. About 4x modern home construction cost and almost twice as much as a modern home to renovate.

Yes - as much as possible. It takes some insanity to take one on, but it's been worth it - so much more livable than modern homes. It has 17 rooms and all major renovations are done except for one kitchen and two minor rooms. (11 years in.)
Imagine a time when the average White man could afford one on his one salary workin' a good job for 40hrs a week.
