As I understand it, detroit became a city because of ford, and when ford fell on hard times it started reverting into a village.

No, not really. Fact is, layoffs were common right from day one, but they never caused the collapse of the city.

The decline of Detroit as we know it today started during the riot in the late 60's, and the subsequent decades of mass white flight.. leaving only niggers in the city.
