What a joke, all you have to do to see who is harassing who is look at all the U.S bases on the edge of Russia and compare that to the closest Russian bases. Not to mention all the shit we do fucking around in the Baltic or the Black sea. Imagine if the Russians started screwing around in the Gulf of Mexico or the Caribbean, we'd be in full panic mode.
They are deliberately flying their bombers up to our airspace and toying with the interceptors. That said, they have been doing this for years. The opinion piece is overblown. Russia is making a play for the Arctic after the ice has permanently melted from rising temperatures.
Some are worried that Russia is trying to get in good with the Cubans and Venezuelans.
I'm sure they have, my point is that we've been doing the same exact shit to them for years. I just hate the double standard that these opinion pieces always try to portray as if we don't make the same kind of power plays if not more than they do. Also the writer didn't even research the kind of planes the Russians were flying for more than 10 seconds claiming that the Tu-95's they're flying are from the '1950s' - there are no existing Tu-95's from the old 1950's variants still being flown, the earliest designs that they fly are the Tu-95Ms which were not even in production until the 1980's.
The melting of the arctic is probably the best thing to happen to Russia for ages.
