The journalist's conclusion is that this creates pressure for Facebook to follow suit... but haven't Twitter and Google basically just given Facebook a monopoly on targeted political ads?

sorta...The situation is fluid. Some companies like Twitter are focused on the shareholders (Twitter has not really made a profit.). Other companies like google can take the hit based upon other businesses. Facebook is trying to make a buck at any cost. Facebook's attitude toward the situation will probably lead to regulations being developed for cyber campaigns.

Sure, but if Facebook is profit hungry I'd say they will probably cash in on their competitors' voluntary withdrawal until such regulations are put in place.

Yeah. The reason I am being noncommittal is because I am unsure of what other companies like reddit are doing.
