AT&T still has well over $100 billion of debt to pay off from all their boneheaded overpriced acquisitions. They're not in a good postilion currently to offer lower rates to attract subscribers. They'll only do so if they lose more on HBO MAX than they projected they would. Also, they're stuck with the $15 per month HBO Go pricing as a baseline.

They have to be competitive relative to the other companies offering streaming. I agree, they made some dumb M&As that they could not afford.
