I have posted about this engine multiple times. No matter where you live, if you get the chance to see it in person you should. It is something to be seen. Especially when that horn blows. It sounds like a raging bull from hell.

From the post:

>Union Pacific is making it official. The railroad company is no longer just talking about Big Boy 4014 going coast-to-coast for America’s 250th birthday. The world’s largest operating steam locomotive is going on tour, and the western half of its historic trip has been solidified. Union Pacific announced Monday that Big Boy will leave the Cheyenne steam shop on March 29 headed for California. No passenger excursions for the western leg of the tour are planned, but two major public display dates have been set. The first is April 10 and 11 at Roseville, California, and the second is April 18 and 19 in Ogden, Utah. The Western half of the tour concludes April 29 in Cheyenne. A daily schedule, including additional stops along the way, with a map of the route, will be released closer to the tour’s launch.

When I built my HO scale train track, I made sure that the curves were big enough to handle the two Big Boys that I had already purchased. And the Engine House had to be enlarged a bit to hold the engine and coal car. It really is a massive beast. It's officially classified as a 4-8-8-4 engine: four front steering wheels, eight mid-front drive wheels, eight mid-rear drive wheels, and four rear (weight distribution?) wheels. Along with my E6A-B9 (diesel) set, it was my most impressive engine.

I have to say this is gay as shit. But then again I too enjoyed HO, N then my fathers Z he built. I always wanted to build a glass top coffee table for my dads Z. Brother still has it.

Also if big boy comes close to Texas I might go see.

Gay comment was a joke.

Last year he went thru Corsicana. Hopefully this year as well. I saw this in Cheyenne back in the mid 80s. A huge locomotive.

Corsicana is doable. Good sammich shop downtown there. Maybe get a fruit cake, don’t know if I’ll have time. Just don’t know.
