The closure will remain in effect until sometime in the spring of 2026, dependent on weather conditions. Such closures are an annual event on the highway, as winter weather, heavy accumulations of snow and a lack of usage make plowing the highway more trouble than it is worth. That stretch of highway is known as the Snowy Range Scenic Byway, and it reaches over 10,800 feet in elevation.
