Robert Heinlein wrote a novel "Orphans of the Sky" back in the fifties. Humans live in a planet size ship complete with farm land levels and all the amenities of what once was earth, albeit they are taught earth is a legend and the ship is "the ship". There is nothing else. Until the main character goes into mutie country and learns the truth.
