I think you meant the 2000 election, Bush-Gore. The election/voting day was held on the correct date per the constitution; it was the results that were delayed for weeks - supposedly by hanging chads in Florida. The votes are supposed to be counted on election day too, but Florida went through multiple recounts and eventually SCOTUS for resolution. Yes, that was a mess. It seems like everything became a mess after that election.

Presidential elections - voting - have never been delayed for any reason. The results have been delayed like in 2000 due to one state with an unusual circumstance in a very close race where recounts were required and the winner of Florida then became the POTUS.
