Maybe not under attack by an enemy so much as living in an occupied territory that our enemy controls. The occupation is political, but also “civilizational”; it encompasses and penetrates the entire temporal and psychic spectrum. It rules not only our capital city, but also our media, our computer and our souls.
In my mind, a nation is a collection of people with a similar culture. We no longer have that. Instead, we live in a pluralistic society. A nation has a government that represents the interests of its citizens; we don't have that. The United States are supposed to be United; we don't have that. There's a push to nationalize all laws and have a single police force to inflict the rules of the tyrants in charge. I can't find anything that resembles a country. You can't even claim we have a border.
We have lines drawn on a map, and that's about it.
For how long?
