Fighting between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and tribal militias continues for the sixth day in Deir Ezzor province in Syria.
The latter, with the support of local tribes, have dislodged the SDF from 22 major population centers. The arms and equipment of the Arab-Kurdish forces have fallen into the hands of the rebels.
In addition, the mass desertion of SDF fighters and their subsequent surrender as prisoners of war is noteworthy.
According to observers, the unifying factor for the tribes is not so much support for the detained Ahmed al-Habil as dissatisfaction with the SDF leadership.
The latter appear to have committed a number of miscalculations in managing a disloyal region.
According to some reports, the tribal heads are trying to establish direct contact with the US-led international coalition in order to clarify the situation.
However, the U.S. side is interacting exclusively with the SDF leadership.
Meanwhile, pro-Turkish groups attacked a settlement in Aleppo province, near the city of Manbij, dislodging the SDF and the Syrian army from there. The attack was preceded by artillery shelling that killed four children.
Kurdish sources were the first to report this tragedy.
The overall strategic goal of the attack by pro-Turkish groups appears to be to prevent the SDF from moving reserves to suppress the uprising in Deir Ezzor province.
