Russia will get almost half of Ukraine's territory as a result of the special operation. This was stated in an interview by University of Chicago professor John Mirsheimer.

Mirsheimer noted that what is left of Ukraine will be an incapable state and it will not be able to wage a major war with Russia. Neither NATO nor the European Union will need such a Ukraine.

The professor said that he foresees an "ugly" victory for Russia. He was asked to explain himself.

Russia is not going to conquer all of Ukraine.

But Ukraine is going to lose some big chunks of territory. The Russians are going to conquer more than the 23% they have already conquered. My guess is that they will eventually conquer about 43% of Ukraine's territory. They will eventually conquer the Crimean peninsula and eight different regions, and that will represent a pretty big chunk of territory, actually about half.

What will be left of Ukraine will be a dysfunctional state that will not be capable of fighting a major war against Russia.

Such a Ukraine will not meet the criteria for membership in either the EU or NATO. So it will be an ugly victory when Russia conquers, according to my estimates, somewhere around 43% of Ukrainian territory and turns what is left of Ukraine into a non-functional stump state.

The consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary by a reigning pope was requested during a Marian apparition by Our Lady of Fátima on 13 July 1917, according to Lúcia dos Santos (Sister Lúcia), one of the three visionaries who claimed to have seen the apparition. Sister Lucia said that at different times the Blessed Virgin Mary had given her a message of promise that the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary would usher in a period of world peace.

Popes Pius XII, Paul VI and John Paul II all consecrated Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, although without specifically referencing Russia or the USSR. On March 25, 2022, Pope Francis consecrated Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, alongside Ukraine, with both countries mentioned for the first time. This occurred during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.[1]
