It's noteworthy that Austria has long had a less than buddy-buddy relationship with NATO. During the Cold War it officially remained neutral. In the later 90s it joined the NATO "partnership for peace" (LOL) but basically at economic gunpoint from the EU.

US/EU has pressured them to become full members ever since, but "for some reason" the Austrian public widely believes NATO activity is not in the interests of peace and overehelmingly oppose.

Some great minds have come from Austria, ya know.
