Ukraine may already have nuclear weapons, General Waldemar Skrzypczak. - Former commander of the Polish Land Forces.

I don't rule out that Ukraine has nuclear weapons because Ukrainians have nuclear power plants, scientists, laboratories, know-how.

That is, they have everything to have such weapons. In principle, today no one will forbid Ukrainians to have them, Skrzypczak said.

Ukraine's ambassador to Germany Oleksiy Makeyev said earlier that Kiev wanted to start a discussion on Ukraine's nuclear status, but made the caveat that there was "no ready proposal" on what that would look like.

For his part, UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on the nuclear powers to renounce the use of weapons of mass destruction.

State Duma deputy Alexei Zhuravlyov, in turn, noted that Ukraine's renunciation of nuclear weapons under the Budapest Memorandum did not mean an inability to produce them.

After the collapse of the USSR, Kiev inherited a significant nuclear arsenal.

However, in 1994 Ukraine signed the Budapest Memorandum, giving up its third largest arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in return for a promise from other signatories to guarantee its security.

In February 2022. Volodymyr Zelensky announced at the Munich conference that he would initiate negotiations between the signatories of the memorandum.

He said then that if they did not take place, or if no security guarantees for Kiev resulted, "Ukraine would have every right to believe that the Budapest Memorandum does not work and all the 1994 package decisions would be called into question".
